Design Services Agreement for the Central Island Drainage Project, in an amount not to exceed $439,995.00 RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution approving the 4th Amendment to the Beiswenger Hoch and Associates, Inc. Design Services Agreement for the Central Island Drainage Project, in an amount not to exceed Four Hundred Thirty-Nine Thousand Nine Hundred Ninety-Five Dollars ($439,995). This is one of two amendments that will expand the scope of the original project to include curb and guttered streets with increased parking, street lighting, landscaping, and additional improvements to Gwen Margolis Park. REASONS The Central Island Drainage Project was designed several years ago and was a rather basic project. The main focus was on drainage and not much if any concern was given to roadway cross sections, parking, lighting, or landscaping. Since beginning the project, it has become very obvious that the City Commission desires a product that defines, beautifies, and enhances the City. This expanded scope of work will put curb and gutter on every street in the project. Under the original design, less than twenty-five percent would have curb and gutter. It will double the available parking while creating landscaped sections to enhance and beautify of the streetscape. It will add about two hundred decorative street lights (like the ones on North Bay Road just south of 172nd). Also included are improvements to Gwen Margolis Park, such as fencing to control the use of the soccer field, new restroom facilities (like the ones in Town Center Park), a hiking and jogging path around the perimeter, angle parking, and connecting sidewalks. Another critical part of this expanded scope is the modification to the underground drainage system for the park. The original park drainage design (again, done several years ago) is not up to the same standards we have set for the rest of the area. These changes will significantly improve the removal of water from the park and surrounding area.
