J Dear Mayor Edelcup, r am happy to share with you that on Sunday, October 5, 2008, the day of JCS' Milk & I-laney Food Delivery event, we will have among our volunteers, some of the best representatives from the City of Sunny Isles Beach. As they have in the past, Commissioners from the City of Sunny Isles Beach will be accompanied by members of our community and their children to deliver holiday food trays to several clients of JCS' senior related programs, including those from its Homebound Meals program - who reside in the City of Sunny Isles Beach. We are grateful for the wonderful support of your team. Over the past few years, I've had the oppOliunity to get to know better the City's commissioners and to have yearly communications with you. Because of that, it is clear to me that our shared vision of enhanced senior services in the Sunny Isles Beach area is a considerable priority, JCS works diligently to obtain additional support to provide opportunities and services for seniors to continue to be served wherever possible. We know we can continue to do more with the City's of Sunny Isle Beach's support. In 2006 based on your suggestion, and again in 2007, we requested $25,000 to be included in your budget. For both years, we received your generolls..~ontribution of $5,000. Realizing the rising costs of providing these vital social services, once again this year, we respectfully request $25,000 to be included in the budget of the City of Sunny Isles Beach. These funds will assist us in serving the senior population of the City by increasing activities and expanding hours of operation at the current site locations. JCS is committed to serving the community as a whole regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or age. It is one of the largest and most effective social service agencies in the South Florida, and we serve more than 35,000 people annually through over 80 programs and services. In the city of Sunny Isles Beach, JCS provides a host of recreation, socialization and other activities to approximately 700 clients. We offer a Russian Club and numerous activities to acculturate the Russian Community. We also deliver hot meals and frozen meals to approximately 50 homebound clients throughout the area. About three years ago, we also began providing social/cultural programming to encourage~seniors to go out at night to see plays, music, etc.
