Maas, Chief of Police
Michael A. Grandinetti, Captain
DATE: September 15, 2016
RE: Approval to accept the donation of a Police K-9 (Dog) from the Miami
Beach K9 Knights, Inc. with an estimated value of $9,000.00 to
$12,000.00
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached Resolution authorizing
the City to accept the donation of a Police K-9 (Dog) from the Miami Beach K9 Knights,
Inc.
REASONS:
This Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports law enforcement through the
donation of specialty dogs and related equipment for police agency use. The Foundation
has already donated several dogs to surrounding Miami Beach area municipalities,
including Bal Harbour and Miami Beach Police Departments.
The expansion of K-9 services in today's current law enforcement operation is growing
rapidly. The patrol work dog, the search and rescue dog, the explosive devise detection
dog, are all in high demand in today's police operations. To have the benefit of a highly
priced K-9 donated to our agency for the benefit of our City and residents is invaluable.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The Foundation will pay the vendor directly and immediately transfer ownership of the K-
9 to our agency. -- —
PcD6-01.10
Agenda Item 10 A F
Date '"l`- 'S' 1,
