Director <br /> <br />February 19,2009 <br /> <br />Agreement with AT&T for the Use of Air Cards <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Approve the attached agreement with AT&T in the amount of $35,079.84 a year, @ $42.99 per <br />month per card for the use of 68 air cards that will support the Police, Building, and Code <br />Enforcement mobile units. <br /> <br />REASONS: <br />Currently, the Police, Building, and Code Enforcement Departments use Verizon air cards for <br />remote communication to the City's network. The Verizon air cards we currently use cannot <br />take advantage of our new Metro E communication coming into the City that provides greater <br />bandwidth and high availability. Furthermore we have tested the AT&T air card against the <br />Verizon air card and the AT&T air card provides better coverage in our City. With the Verizon <br />air card, there are more areas within the City that lack coverage in comparison with the AT&T <br />air card. The AT&T air card takes advantage of the new 30 network which provides twice the <br />bandwidth than the Verizon air card allowing for faster communication. The management of the <br />AT&T equipment is easier as well using a provided online tool. With Verizon, ordering new <br />equipment and activating air cards takes several days. <br /> <br />ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: <br />Currently with Verizon we pay $49.99 per month per card (68 cards total). By switching to <br />AT &T air cards, we would not only save money but have a better product that uses the latest <br />technology at a savings to the City.
