Russo, City Manager
FROM: Fred A. Maas, Police Chief
Michael A. Grandinetti, Police Captain
DATE: 10/20/2016
RE: Ratify the donation of a surplus police vehicle to the City
of Cedar Key, Florida
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission ratify this Resolution
authorizing the City Manager to donate a surplus police vehicle to the
City of Cedar Key Police Department.
REASONS:
On September 2, 2016 the City of Cedar Key, Florida was devastated
as hurricane "Hermine" made landfall just to the north of them as a
category 1 hurricane. The City of Cedar Key lost the use of their City
Hall, Police Department and most of their already small police fleet.
According to The Cedar Key Police Chief, Virgil Sandlin, he estimated
the city suffered a loss of at least$10 million in damages.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The City of Cedar Key Police Department reached out to the City of
Sunny Isles Beach and requested any assistance possible with surplus
vehicles. Due to the urgent nature of this request, the City Manager
immediately authorized the donation of one of our surplus vehicles
earmarked to be sold on auction.
ATTACHMENTS:
158
