Architectural and Engineering Services for an addition and miscellaneous improvements to the recreation building. Renovate and improve site amenities. This project includes a 700 sq. ft. addition to the existing recreation building, exterior lighting of building, parking, additional light poles to improve light level, new ADA drinking fountain, toilet rooms, new dumpster enclosure and renovations to the recreation building. Construction Cost $340,000.00 (1) TITLE AND LOCATION (City and State) The Child Care Center at Broward Community College Pembroke Pines, FL (2) YEAR COMPLETED PROFESSIONAL SERVICES CONSTRUCTION (If applicable) 2001-2003 NA (3) BRIEF DESCRIPTION (Brief scope, size, cost, etc.) AND SPECIFIC ROLE ~ Check if project performed with current firm The Child Care Center at Broward Community College was designed with the thought that this place was for children. The scale of the building was kept as 10w as possible so that the building wouldn't seem overpowering to the young ones. Where applicable, windows were designed to go clear to the floor so that children could look out. Windows were subdivided into smaller frames so that the overall texture of the building was in keeping with the scale of children. Likewise ceilings were also kept at a minimum where children would congregate or play. Natural light was also supplemented to the windows with three large clerestorys over the entrances to the classrooms. The covered play area was designed and built around a large Banyan tree with an open articulated beam that resembles an erector set. An enclosed outdoor play area included playscapes and giant leaf formations cast into the concrete floor slab as though gently placed there by some mysterious giant. The blocky design lends itself to playful colors that were arranged to reinforce the massmg. STANDARD FORM 330 (1/2004) PAGE 2
