The scale of the building was kept as 10w as possible so that the building wouldn't seem <br />overpowering to the young ones. Where applicable, windows were designed to go clear to the floor so that <br />children could look out. Windows were subdivided into smaller frames so that the overall texture of the <br />building was in keeping with the scale of children. Likewise ceilings were also kept at a minimum where <br />children would congregate or play. Natural light was also supplemented to the windows with three large <br />clerestorys over the entrances to the classrooms. The covered play area was designed and built around a large <br />Banyan tree with an open articulated beam that resembles an erector set. An enclosed outdoor play area <br />included playscapes and giant leaf formations cast into the concrete floor slab as though gently placed there by <br />some mysterious giant. The blocky design lends itself to playful colors that were arranged to reinforce the <br />massmg. <br /> <br />STANDARD FORM 330 (1/2004) PAGE 2 <br />
