<br />Chapter 10. LANDSCAPING REQUIREMENTS <br /> <br />1001 LANDSCAPING REQUIREMENTS <br /> <br />1001.1 Purpose and Intent. - The purpose and intent of this article is to provide requirements, <br />standards and regulations for the installation and maintenance of landscaping and <br />landscaped open space. The City recognizes the aesthetic, ecological and economic value <br />of landscaping and requires its use to: <br />. Preserve and enhance Sunny Isles Beach's urban forests; <br />. Promote the reestablishment of vegetation in the urban area for aesthetic, health <br />and urban wildlife reasons; <br />. Reduce storm water runoff pollution, temperature and rate and volume of water <br />flow; <br />. Establish and enhance a pleasant visual character which recognizes aesthetics <br />and safety issues; <br />. Create and enhance a subtropical environment to reinforce the identity, <br />distinctiveness and sense of place for Sunny Isles Beach that is essential to the <br />quality of visitor experiences that strengthen the City's economic base of <br />tourism. <br />. Promote compatibility between land uses by reducing the visual, noise, and <br />lighting impacts of specific development on users of the site and abutting uses; <br />. Unify development and enhance and define public spaces; <br />. Promote the retention and use of existing and native vegetation; <br />. Aid in energy conservation by providing shade from the sun and shelter from the <br />wind; <br />. Restore natural communities through re-establishment of native plants; <br />. Mitigate for the loss of natural resource values; and <br />. Maintain and improve the aesthetic quality of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, <br />thereby promoting the health and general welfare of its citizenry. <br /> <br />1001.2 Applicability. - The provisions contained herein shall be applicable to all projects <br />comprising new construction or substantial additions and alterations, Also, if landscape in <br />excess of 50 percent of total site landscaping requires replacement, the entire property <br />shall be brought up to current landscape standards and requirements. This chapter <br />establishes minimum standards and shall apply to all public and private development <br />when a building permit is required. <br /> <br />1001.3 Definitions. - The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall <br />have the meanings ascribed to them in this subsection, except where the context clearly <br />indicates a different meaning: <br /> <br />Adopted December 10, 2002 <br /> <br />CHAPTER 10 Laadseape Requiremeats 1000 - 1 <br />
