Grandinetti, Police Captain

7/15/2010

Approval to Expend Partial Forfeiture (DOJ) Funds for the
purchase of a Training Trailer, Vehicle Rifle Vaults and
miscellaneous investigative equipment to be used by our detached
detective and his DEA, HIDTA group, in an amount not to exceed
$75,000.00

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the City Commission approve the expenditure of partial
Federal (DOJ) Forfeiture Funds, previously awarded to the Police Department as
the results of investigative participation in forfeiture and seizure cases. These
funds are permissible by law to be spent for the purchases of police equipment
and other law enforcement activities. It is requested that we be permitted to
utilize up to $75,000.00 of said funds on deposit for such purpose.

REASONS:

The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department actively participates in a DEA I HIDTA
(High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) Initiative Group that conducts numerous
ongoing proactive investigations and has a need for the attached listed
equipment.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

One of the benefits of participating in and providing personnel into high intensity
narcotics investigations is the sharing of confiscated proceeds for the
enhancement of law enforcement. All of the attached listed items are authorized
expenditures and are designed towards charitable and crime prevention
programs, enhancement of law enforcement equipment as well as legal costs
associated with the asset forfeiture process.

http://sibagenda. sibfl.net/agenda/Preview .aspx?I temID=3 04&MeetingID=0&MeetingDate=... 7/9/2010
