As part of a downtown revitalization,
two adjacent aging steel-framed parking garages
were replaced with updated additional parking,
along with developer residential/retail parcels
within the same city block. Architectural fa<;ade
elements incorporated two-tone brick veneer with
aluminum accent screening to provide an
appealing perspective. Streetscape
improvements complement the architecture and
invite pedestrian traffic along the adjacent
thoroughfares.

This Project won the 2006 PCI Design Award for
Best Parking Structure.

DESCRIPTION

. Three-bay double helix structure with two
ramped bays and one flat bay; one-way
traffic circulation pattern.

. Four glass-backed elevator towers; two
glass-backed stair towers; all providing
multiple-level access to the adjacent
developer parcels.

. Covered pedestrian walkway at grade to
an adjacent office building.

. Precast concrete field-topped double tee
framing system with interior shearwalls and
perimeter firewalls/ shearwalls, along with
load-bearing perimeter spandrels.

. Drilled pier foundations.

. Design provisions have been included for
a future two- and one-half level vertical
expansion.

DATA

Number of Spaces
Square Feet per Car
Number of Levels
Structural System

905
329
7
Precast

Carl Walker, Inc.
Structural Engineer/Parking Consultant

City of Greenville
Owner

I
I

wy'w.carlwalker.com
