<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2010- Ml <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY <br />OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, NAMING THE <br />BASEBALL FIELD AT THE PELICAN COMMUNITY PARK <br />LOCATED AT 18115 NORTH BAY ROAD, "THE CHIEF FRED <br />MAAS BASEBALL FIELD"; DIRECTING THE CITY <br />MANAGER OR DESIGNEE TO SCHEDULE A DEDICATION <br />CEREMONY; PROVIDING THE CITY MANAGER AND CITY <br />ATTORNEY WITH THE AUTHORITY TO DO ALL THINGS <br />NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; <br />PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Police Chief Fred Maas co-founded the Sunny Isles Beach Police <br />Department in 1998 and was named Captain and Assistant Chief, and in 1999 was appointed <br />Police Chief, and he has worked diligently to build this Department up with safer streets, <br />established policies and procedures, substantially reduced crime, which led to his appointment to <br />the Governor's Violent Crime and Drug Council by Governor Jeb Bush; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, throughout the years Chief Maas has demonstrated a deep concern for this <br />community and has received many honors and awards for his leadership, commitment, and <br />dedication; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Chief Maas is a former college baseball player and served as an umpire for <br />the North Miami Beach Little League and the youth baseball leagues throughout South Florida <br />for several years; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Police Chief Fred Maas has announced his retirement from the City of <br />Sunny Isles Beach, and this community would like to give back by naming the Baseball Field at <br />the Pelican Community Park in his honor as the "The Chief Fred Maas Baseball Field". <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. Approval of Naming the Baseball Field. The City Commission hereby approves <br />the naming of the baseball field in Pelican Community Park, located at 18115 North Bay Road, <br />as "The Chief Fred Maas Baseball Field". <br /> <br />Section 2. Directive to the City Manager. The City Commission hereby directs the City <br />Manager or designee to schedule a dedication ceremony. <br /> <br />Section 3. Authorization of City Manager and City Attorney. The City Manager and the <br />City Attorney are hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. <br /> <br />Section 4. <br /> <br />Effective Date.
