Hines, City Clerk <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />The Honorable City commiSSiO(;jJrn . <br /> <br />Hans Ottinot, City Attorney <br />November 18, 2010 <br /> <br />Agreement to Retain the Services of Special Counsel <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />This Resolution is presented for your consideration. <br /> <br />REASONS: <br /> <br />On August 27, 2010, the Public Employees Relations Commission certified the Dade County <br />Police Benevolent Association ("PBA") as the exclusive bargaining representative for the City of <br />Sunny Isles Beach Police Officers. Consequently, the City intends to engage in collective <br />bargaining negotiations with the PBA. <br /> <br />I have determined that the City is in need of hiring additional counsel to represent the City in <br />negotiations with the PBA regarding the collective bargaining process. As such, I have retained <br />the law firm of Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff & Sitterson, P.A. <br /> <br />The law firm of Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff & Sitterson, P.A. has agreed to act as <br />co-counsel in connection with certain legal matters related to the collective bargaining process. It <br />is important to note that the law firm is well qualified and has agreed to provide a discounted rate <br />to the City. <br /> <br />/ Attachment <br />
