Advantages of Powder Coating Aluminum. Powder Coating is an advanced yet simple way of spray painting a very fine dry plastic powder paint material. As the powder gently leaves the front of the spray gun, it is charged with static electricity, which attracts the powder paint to the part (section of aluminum fence) being coated. In our case, the section of aluminum fence 8 feet long by 3 feet high (after being coated) is placed in an oven and set to a temperature of 400 degrees for 10 minutes. While in the oven, the powder paint melts and flows into a beautiful and durable finish. Many highway and building jobs use power coating on high poles, guardrails, signs, posts and fencing. Disadvantages of power coating: Power coating can be very forgiving of coating mistakes before the item is placed in the oven. However, after the power cures in the stove -top, mistakes can only be removed by sand blasting or burning it off. A cold stripper is available but it is slow, extremely hazardous and could damage the metal itself.
