L <br />7 <br />PROJECT UNDERSTANDING <br />The City of Sunny Isles Beach desires to hire a Landscape Architectural consultant that <br />has demonstrated experience in the following areas: <br />1. Right -of -way beautification; <br />2. Median and swale landscaping; <br />3. Development of maintenance standards; <br />4. Beach and dune scaping; <br />5. Active and passive park development; <br />6. Irrigation design, operation and maintenance; <br />7. Wetland restoration; and <br />8. Sensitivity to environmental issues unique to coastal barrier islands. <br />Miller, Legg & Associates, Inc. (MLA) has a vast amount of experience in these potential <br />project task areas. Our experience in the development of right -of -way and median <br />landscape beautification projects is demonstrated in the project approach used for this <br />RFQ. <br />In the area of maintenance standards, MLA has developed maintenance standards for a <br />variety of different facilities. These maintenance standards have included landscape <br />maintenance requirements for various planting areas that MLA has designed. Tree <br />relocation specifications for the FDOT District IV were developed by MLA. These tree <br />relocation specifications were prepared for the entire District, which includes the <br />Counties from Broward to Indian River. MLA has also been instrumental in the <br />development of management plans for various recreational facilities. These <br />recreational and environmental facilities include the City of Pembroke Pines' Academic <br />Village and the City of Coral Springs' Sandy Ridge Sanctuary. These management <br />plans address key issues as they relate to the long -term sustainability of the natural <br />resources found on these projects as well as the daily operational issues as they are <br />required for various security, safety, accessibility and aesthetic issues. <br />MLA is proud of its reputation as a leader in the area of environmental design. MLA has <br />a full service environmental staff with vast experience in both freshwater and coastal <br />systems. MLA's Environmental and Landscape Architectural Departments work as a <br />team in order to develop designs that are aesthetically pleasing while responding and <br />respecting the natural resources. <br />The success of the collaborative <br />efforts between the Landscape <br />Architecture and Environmental <br />Departments at MLA have garnered <br />MLA design awards from ASLA, <br />ASCE, FNPS and FICE. These <br />projects include: the City of Coral <br />Springs' Sandy Ridge Sanctuary, <br />Broward County's 1,500 acre West <br />Lake Park and the City of Weston's <br />2000+ acre Habitat Restoration <br />Project. <br />
