COMPANY HISTORY The Weitz Company of today descends from a small carpentry shop founded in 1855 by an entrepreneurial German immigrant. In many ways, the company grew up not just with the construction industry but also with the nation. Our firm predates the Civil War, the telegraph, dynamite, and the transcontinental railroad. In fact, the same year that Charles H. Weitz opened his firm, the government signed 19 treaties with Midwestern Indian Tribes. As the years passed and the business grew, Charles handed down his craft and sense of values to his sons, who in turn passed the family business on to their children, continuing for four generations. Now almost a century and a half later, Weitz ranks as the 27`h largest general building contractor in the United States with nearly $1 billion in revenues projected for 2002. As a privately held employee owned construction firm, we have strategically positioned our offices in areas that include West Palm Beach, Phoenix, Denver, Des Moines, Kansas City, Omaha, Cedar Rapids and Temecula, California. Nationally, we offer design /build, general construction, construction 90 Division Offices •Current Major Projects management, and preconstruction consulting services to our clients. Our diverse projects include commercial office buildings, hotels and resorts, mid and high -rise structures, warehouse and distribution centers, health and educational facilities, senior living complexes, multi- family residential, retail establishments, country clubs, and religious facilities, to name a few. The Florida Division of The Weitz Company was established in 1978 and has grown to become one of the largest and most reputable builders in the state. Since entering the Florida marketplace, we have completed a multitude of diverse project types that have ranged in both size and complexity. It is not unusual to find our group constructing projects as small as $500,000 to as large as $60 million on a single project. Our Division currently employs 71 salaried employees and an additional 92 skilled craftsmen who supplement our self - performing capabilities.
