t
t
t
Sombrero Beach
Redevelopment Plan
The City of Marathon has
contracted Calvin, Giordano &
Associates, Inc. to come up with
a conceptual plan to redevelop
Sombrero Beach Park, located
in the Florida Keys.
Calvin, Giordano & Associates,
Inc. provided the City with the
above conceptual
redevelopment plan. The design
elements of the park include
special pavement treatments at
Sombrero Beach Road;
improved entry features,
pavilions, restroom structures
and picnic shelters; and
improved walkways to create full
access to the entire park site.
The park section that is adjacent
to Sombrero Beach Road will
welcome visitors to the park with
special paver designs,
landscaping and bench
elements.
The City of Marathon is well -
known for the history of the
Flagler Railroad camps and the
special architectural design of
those buildings on Pigeon Key.
The design elements of the
park will incorporate the
historic railroad venacular
theme and reflect the image of
the area.
The park currently has an
active turtle nesting habitat,
which has been a significant
factor in the overall layout of
this plan. The lighting design
for this park has been specially
designed to ensure that is not
detrimental to the hatchlings.
Client:
City of Marathon, Florida
Contact Information:
Mr. Craig Wrathell, City
Manager
11090 Overseas Highway
Marathon, Florida 33050
(305) 743 -0033
Project Date:
2001 - present
Project Cost:
Ongoing
Number /$ Amount of
Change Orders:
Not Applicable
Services Provided:
Architectural Design,
Landscape Design and Site
Furnishings
Key Personnel:
Tammy Cook, RLA, ASLA
Bruce Ora, RLA
Carrie Steinbaum, ASLA
Calvin.
