State Rd. 5 - Highway Beautification <br />Funded Grant Application <br />This project consists of Highway Beautification for the <br />road right -of -ways of State Road 5 (U.S. 1) in the City of <br />Marathon, which exists as one of the most historically <br />significant locations in the Florida Keys. The length of <br />the project is approximately two tenths of a mile at each <br />location at the outermost points of the City. To the East <br />at Grassy Key, MM60, just to the western limit of Tom's <br />Harbor Bridge, the City entry point traveling west towards <br />Key West. The other location is to the west of Knights <br />Key, MM47, just to the eastern limit of the Seven Mile <br />Bridge, the City entry point traveling east towards Miami. <br />,RIDA DEPARTMENT <br />,PORTATION (FDOT) <br />DISTRICT VI <br />Client: <br />City of Marathon <br />Contact Information: <br />Mayor Robert K. It is the most prominent Key Personnel: <br />roadway in Monroe County and historically depicts the Tammy Cook, RLA, ASLA <br />location of the Flagler Railroad. The historic aspect of Bruce Ora, RLA <br />this project was a significant component of its design Carrie Steinbaum, RLA, ASLA <br />development. The incorporation of historic railroad <br />structures at these City entry points were intended to <br />highlight the importance that the Flagler Railroad played <br />toward the growth and development of the City of <br />Marathon. With the extension of the Heritage Trail along <br />this route, visitors to Marathon will have an opportunity to <br />share in the history of Marathon as interpretive railroad <br />landmark locations are planned along the thirteen mile <br />stretch along (U.S. 1) within the City limits. <br />" C Mn. vardiw € rlssoritu.
