standard for "Florida Fancy" per the State of Florida, Department of Agriculture. <br />D. Pruning: <br />1. Plants shall not be pruned prior to delivery except as authorized by the CONSULTANT. <br />2. Plants shall have been transplanted or root pruned at least once in the three years prior to <br />contract date. <br />3. Immediately upon selection by the CONTRACTOR and acceptance by the CONSULTANT, <br />all major trees shall be completely root pruned at the nursery site and held in that condition <br />for a period of 45 - 60 days. Plants shall not be further dug or transported without acceptance <br />of CONSULTANT. <br />4. If the CONTRACTOR wishes to strip the foliage of certain species prior to transplanting, <br />removal of not more than one -half of foliage shall be conducted at time of root pruning. In <br />this event the plant shall fully conform to this specification at the time of planting and review <br />for acceptance. <br />E. "Medjool" Date Palms: <br />Phoenix Dactylifera "Medjool ", 14 foot clear trunk, 11 foot clear wood. <br />Clear trunk shall be measured from the lowest live green frond to ground level and clear wood <br />shall be measured from the bottom of the "Pineapple" to ground level. Both measurements <br />must be met in order to satisfy this requirement. <br />a. Each palm shall have a minimum caliper of 20 inches and shall not vary in caliper by <br />more than two inches at any point along the trunk. <br />b. All palms must meet or exceed all of the requirements of Florida Fancy as defined <br />in the Florida Grades and Standards for Nursery Plants published by the Florida <br />Dept. of Agriculture. <br />C. Canopies to be full and green at the time of arrival at the job site with a minimum <br />spread at the installation of 12 feet. <br />d. Mechanical scars into the trunks ofthe palms will disqualified this material as Florida <br />#1 and will therefore be cause for rejection on site. <br />e. The Deglett Noor Cultivar is not acceptable alternate and will not be accepted for <br />this installation. <br />f. The CONTRACTOR is responsible for obtaining from the Date palm supplier a <br />signed and notarized certificate indicating the genus, species, and sub - variety of the <br />palms he intends to deliver to the project site. This certification is to be submitted <br />to the CONSULTANT, for approval, prior to delivery of any Date Palms to the <br />project site. <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION <br />3.01 EXISTING CONDITIONS <br />A. Before Work of this section, carefully inspect Work of other trades and verify that such Work is <br />complete to the point at which this landscape Work may properly commence.
