TRAINING PROCEDURES <br />• Read and discuss with employees <br />BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS <br />All employees of CSI may encounter routine or non - routine exposure to bloodborne pathogens <br />such as hepatitis B (HBV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Therefore, the guidelines <br />listed below are essential to minimize and /or eliminate employee exposure to blood or other <br />potentially infectious materials. <br />All employees should view the video "Bloodborne Pathogens" prior to reporting to the <br />job site. <br />Universal precautions - the first rule is to assume that all blood and other bodily fluids are <br />infectious with HIV, HBV, or other bloodborne pathogens and must not come into <br />contact with exposed skin, eyes, or mucous membranes. <br />• PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) - gloves, goggles and /or glasses are to be worn when <br />handling "red bag" or other tagged bio- hazard trash or waste. <br />If you clean tables or counter tops, walls, and /or floors in labs or other areas <br />contaminated with blood or other bodily fluids, you must wear gloves and glass /goggles <br />before starting the cleaning process. Other specialized clothing may be required depending <br />on size and /or location of the contaminant. <br />ENGINEERING AND WORK PRACTICE CONTROLS: <br />Employees MUST wash their hands and any other exposed skin with soap and water <br />immediately following contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials. <br />• Employees MUST wash their hands immediately after removal of gloves or other PPE <br />Eating, drinking, and smoking are prohibited in areas where there is a likelihood of <br />occupational exposure to blood. <br />EQUIPMENT: <br />• Wet mops used in direct contact with blood or other potentially infectious fluids during <br />the clean -up process MUST be disposed of immediately. Place mops in a "red bag" or <br />other tagged bio- hazard container and dispose of properly. Treat it as hazardous waste. <br />25 <br />
