f-95 L-me -Cml e Ir�,d�or/er s <br />Oakland Park, Florida <br />Description <br />Reference <br />The Cities of Oakland Park and Wilton Manors hired <br />John Stunson <br />Carter & Burgess to prepare conceptual plans for the <br />City Manager <br />interchange of Oakland Park Boulevard and 1 -95 in Central <br />City of Oakland Park <br />Broward County. This 50 -acre interchange serves as a <br />954.561.6250 <br />'Gateway' to both Cities, is cooperatively funded by <br />FDOT under their own "Greening Gateways' initiative, <br />Services <br />and carries some of the highest daily traffic volumes in <br />Conceptual Planning <br />South Florida. Scale dictated a design that will create a <br />recognizable identity for both Cities. The adopted theme <br />Landscape <br />seeks to tie the final design to the water- oriented history of <br />Architecture <br />the region, providing instantly recognizable features that <br />result in a unique identity for these two progressive cities. <br />Streetscape Design <br />Signage has to be combined with a specialized palette of <br />landscaping, hardscape elements, and significant public <br />art features that tie to the historical theme. Large 'sail like' <br />features work with simulated, grassed flow -ways, and dry <br />'boulder beds' to create <br />a unique identity, limiting <br />additional maintenance <br />requirements. Significant <br />additions of shade <br />trees will enhance .i1� it <br />the pedestrian users' <br />experience, helping �` 4) <br />to naturalize this harsh <br />environment.
