.rce Nhu/
Oakland Park, Florida
Description
The first implementation of the City's gateway features
should be completed at the North and South City
Gateways adjacent to Dixie Highway. Carter & Burgess
is now underway with master design and subsequent bid
documents for two major City entry locations along this
historic highway. Plans currently call for significant signage
features to be designed to compliment the adjacent
pedestrian and vehicular traffic routes and incorporate
new streetscape elements that work with the Gateway
features, extending their identity into adjacent linear parks
totaling more than one mile. In particular, the plans will
allow for future 'Public Art' installations in strategically
placed plaza locations. The design challenges in this
environment include a host of safety and aesthetic issues
related to the gateway locations along the FEC Railroad
and the accommodation of existing mass transit stops
into the new design. The City has already secured grant
funding of more than $300,000 and with the completed
plans later this year will seek additional funding support
from the developers in the redeveloping downtown core
that will benefit from this project's implementation.
Reference
John Stunson
City Manager
City of Oakland Park
954.561.6250
Services
Irrigation Design,
Operation &
Maintenance
Master Planning
Construction Phase
Documents
Streetscape Design
