J
Project
i
Or
af'
f
FIDE
Of L PA CLU15
_41 '
Gilda's Club South Florida, named in honor of the late comedian, Gilda Radner, is one of
17 Clubs throughout North America, which provides a place where adults and children
living with cancer and their families and friends join with others for social and emotional
support as a supplement to medical care, free of charge. Gilda's Club South Florida offers
support groups, lectures, workshops, and social events in a conveniently located home-
like setting.
CGA had a dual role in renovating Gilda's Club. CGA applied for the Broward Beautiful
grant that is assisting improvements to the donated, historical property. CGA also provided
equal "in- kind" services to create landscaping. The improvements provide aesthetic
landscaping along the edge of the Tarpon River.
Constraints on the site include a sloped yard. CGA developed a level sodded area to
introduce useable space for activities. On the west side of the site, an historic vernacular
wall had been offset 7 feet from the property line and prohibited the utilization of the space.
So, CGA proposed pockets of seating areas where the wall would be removed and
reconstructed in a U- shaped form. This creates private outdoor seating area.
Client
Gilda's Club South Florida
Contact information
at time of project:
Joanne Welch
119 Rose Drive
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316
954 763 6776
Project Date
2003
Amount of Grant
$5,500.00
Services Provided
Grant application to Broward
Beautiful and Landscape
Design
Key Personnel
Dennis Giordano
Robin Banks
Tammy Cook, ASIA, RLA
Gianno Feoli
