OSPREY /HILLVIEW STREETSCAPE <br />Sarasota, Florida <br />The Southside Village is an extremely <br />pedestrian- oriented area located next to the <br />hospital and several offices in the heart of a <br />quaint retail district. The goal was to create <br />an aesthetically pleasing yet accessible village <br />allowing the flow of traffic and pedestrians. <br />Traffic was an important factor in this plan <br />because of recent developments and the <br />increasing number of vehicles on the boulevard. <br />For that reason several landscape islands and <br />medians were designed to calm the traffic as <br />weel as raised crosswalks and specialty paving. <br />The plan also included gateway features, <br />lighting, information and directional kiosks, <br />signage, seating, street trees and irrigation. <br />35 <br />
