<br />Summary Minutes: Regular City Commission Meeting <br /> <br />July 20, 2006 <br /> <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida <br /> <br />Commissioner Thaler moved and Commissioner Iglesias seconded a motion to approve the <br />resolution. Resolution No. 2006-954 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor. <br /> <br />ION. A Resolution ofthe City Commission ofthe City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, Repealing <br />Resolution No. 2005-856 in its Entirety; Approving a 99- Year Lease Agreement with <br />Miami-Dade County for the Property Located at 17200 Collins Avenue to Construct a <br />Fire Station, in the Amount of $1.00 per Year, Attached Hereto as Exhibit "A"; Providing <br />for the Commencement of Construction Within Three (3) Years of Execution; Providing for <br />the Naming of the Fire Station as "Sunny Isles Beach Fire Station"; Providing the Mayor <br />with the Authority to Execute the Agreement; Providing the City Manager with the Authority <br />to Do All Things Necessary to Effectuate the Terms of the Agreement; Providing for an <br />Effective Date. <br /> <br />Action: City Clerk Hines read the title and City Attorney Ottinot reported. <br /> <br />Public Speakers: Carlos Heredia <br /> <br />Carlos Heredia, Principal Planner of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department, commended <br />City Attorney Ottinot and Deputy City Attorney Patricia SaintVil-Joseph as they have been <br />very helpful throughout this process. <br /> <br />Commissioner Thaler asked if this can be expedited as it states three more years. Mr. <br />Heredia said we first have to proceed with the demolition process, and prior to that they have <br />to locate a temporary site where they can accommodate the station so they don't interrupt <br />service at any point, and this can take nearly a year. He said in regards to demolition it can <br />take another two years, so construction will hopefully begin in three years, it is their intent to <br />move forward as quickly as possible. Commissioner Goodman asked why is it going to take <br />another three years and Mr. Heredia said they moved as fast as they could overcoming <br />bureaucrats and red tape with the County with GSA, all the. preparation of the lease before it <br />got to the point of November 17, and this discrepancy they had with the lease did set them <br />back more then they had expected, but they are on it full force now. Commissioner <br />Goodman asked that he still move it up a little, and Mr. Heredia said he would definitely try <br />to expedite this process. <br /> <br />Mayor Edelcup said that there were a couple of things that were requested during <br />negotiations, and he said he appreciated the letter that the County furnished them in April <br />relative to the North Bay Road access through the Vista View property, and reminded City <br />Manager Szerlag and staff that we need to proceed now that we have that letter to see if we <br />can get that additional access opened into the Vista View property. Mayor Ede1cup stated <br />that he is still working with the County to see what can be done about a satellite office for <br />permits and plans review in the northeast quadrant of Miami-Dade County. Mr. Heredia said <br />that they have dealt with the Fire Marshall in these instances and that he would bring this to <br />the Fire Chief s attention, and will draft some sort of cost estimates. Mayor Edelcup said <br />when they are ready he would suggest to set up a meeting with the Mayors or Councils of the <br />respective cities that are involved because collectively he is sure they can come up with a <br />solution that would be beneficial to all parties, and Mr. Heredia said they could arrange that. <br /> <br />20 <br />
