"My <br />only regret is that I will not be here to see the many projects that we have started come <br />to fruition," added Szerlag. <br /> <br />As the City Manager of Sunny Isles Beach ,John Szerlag served as the chief <br />administrative officer directing the day-to-day operations of city government. Prior to <br />joining the City of Sunny Isles Beach in 2006, Szerlag served as City Manager of Troy, <br />Michigan from 1999 to 2005. <br /> <br />In his resignation letter, Mr. Szerlag indicated that he will be available to assist the City <br />during the transition period. On January 22, 2009 at a Special City Commission Meeting, <br />the City Commission accepted his resignation and agreed to retain Mr. Szerlag as a <br />consultant during the transition period. <br /> <br />The City Commission also appointed Rick Conner, the City Engineer, as Acting City <br />Manager until a pennanent city manager is appointed.
