Hertz, Chainnan and CEO of Wometco Enterprises, Inc., and the <br />owner/operator of the Miami Seaquarium@, proposed building an aquatic center in Sunny <br />Isles Beach. <br /> <br />The proposed Wometco Aquatic Center project would be a world class tourist attraction, <br />located across from St. Tropez (330 Sunny Isles Blvd.), in between Sunny Isles <br />Boulevard east and west bound lanes and border Collins Avenue. <br /> <br />Architect Eduardo Castii'leira, president and CEO of aziomaJarchitects, presented a five- <br />level site plan that includes a parking garage, restaurants, shops, banquet halls and a <br />three-story aquarium. Still in the design phase, the project would be a family-oriented <br />attraction, hands,on, include educational opportunities, banquet space for 1,000 and be <br />unique to all of South Florida. <br /> <br />"The City Commission is very pleased with the proposed project and it meets the stated <br />goals of the city's Comprehensive Plan for this area," added Sunny Isles Beach Major <br />Nonnan S. Edelcup. The Wometco Aquatic Center would be on land already purchased <br />by the City, and could possibly be combined into a fully-integrated project with an area to <br />the west of this site. <br /> <br />At the end of the presentation and discussion. it was the consensus of the City <br />Commission to move forward with this project giving instructions to City staff to stan <br />working with Mr. Hertz. <br /> <br />More plans for this project will be presented at the 6:30 p.m., February 18,2010 City <br />Commission Meeting located at the David P. Samson Commission Chambers, SIB <br />Government Center, 18070 Collins A venue. A Press Event is tentatively scheduled for <br />February 19th. Details will be available shortly. <br />
