Grandinetti, Police Captain

4/21/2011

Approval to expend up to $51,328.64 of Reimbursable Grant Funds for
the purchase of forty-eight (48) HeartStart FRx Defibrillators for the
Police Department.

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution approving the
purchase of forty-eight (48) HeartStart FRx Defibrillators from Philips Healthcare, Inc. to
replace the current, out of date defibrillators use by the police department.

REASONS:

On September 22,2010, the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department was awarded a COPS
Technology Program Grant in the amount of $200,000.00 One of the projects associated
with this grant was the purchase of forty-eight defibrillators to assure that each Sunny
Isles Beach Police Officer was assigned a defibrillator to assist them when responding to
cardiac related medical emergencies.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The Sunny Isles Beach Purchasing Department has researched the purchase of these
defibrillators and determined that the most cost effective method of purchase would be
through a piggy-back contract. If approved, the defibrillators would be purchased from
Philips Healthcare, Inc. piggy-backing the Seminole County Contract #IFB-3125-05/JVP
at a price not to exceed $51,328.64. This price represents a discount of 54% off the retail
cost.

FUNDING SOURCE:

Funds for the purchase of these Defibrillators will be reimbursed through the COPS
FY2010 Technology Program Grant # 2010-CKWX-0481

Agenda Item tOE-
~IJ

http://sibagenda.sibfl.net/agenda/Preview .aspx?I temID=483 &MeetingID= Date
