<br />SAFETY PRACTICES <br />The school crossing guards are vulnerable to all pedestrian hazards such as slipping and <br />falling during bad weather, the requirement to observe common sense safety measures is <br />obvious. The fact that the school crossing guard is often alone at a crossing area increases the <br />danger of carelessness, which could result in injuries preventing the school crossing guard from <br />calling for assistance. Observing safety rules certainly will reduce the chance of serious injury <br />and could save your life, <br /> <br />The first tour is the most important one of the entire shift if all is in order or this round, <br />any later deviation should be a cause for concern, The following checklist may prove helpful. <br /> <br />a, A void short cuts between or through building and across grounds unless <br />necessary in the normal routine of the inspection work. <br /> <br />b, Always walk on the left side of the roadway, facing on-coming traffic (assuming <br />sidewalks are not provided), <br /> <br />c. Be especially alert under such conditions. <br />Report un-sanded or un-cleared walks. <br /> <br />b, Slippery or wet floors present an accident hazard. Be alert to avoid slipping or <br />falling, <br /> <br />Finally, a school crossing guard should possess the common sense to recognize an <br />emergency when it arises, and to act promptly and properly. <br /> <br />In some cases, school crossing guards are required to call in hourly to report to their <br />dispatcher in the office.
