<br />Summary Minutes: Regular City Commission Meeting <br /> <br />April 21, 2011 <br /> <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida <br /> <br />5. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS <br /> <br />SA. City Commission Employee Recognition Program: Certificates of Appreciation to be <br />Presented to City Employees: Robert Mosley, Mario Matos, and Cledna Zuniga. <br />Action: Mayor Edelcup reported, and the City Commission presented the Certificates of <br />Appreciation and noted that each recipient will receive a $100 check. Robert Mosley and <br />Mario Matos helped rescue a kitten trapped in a 20-foot deep drain pipe for three days; and <br />Cledna Zuniga has continued safe and courteous bus driving services. <br /> <br />5B. Presentation by Michael S. Mills, Representing the Department of Defense, Employer <br />Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), to Police Officer Albert Porro, a Staff Sergeant <br />of the Florida Army National Guard and recent Bronze Medal of V alor Recipient for Actions <br />taken to save his unit when his unit was struck by an lED in Iraq last year. <br />Action: Michael Mills, Area Chair, ESGR of the Department of Defense, said their primary <br />mission is to gain and maintain active support from public and private employers for our <br />National Guard and Reserve. Staff Sergeant Porro and his wife Melissa joined him to <br />present Chief Fred Maas, who was joined by his wife Tracy and their daughter Catherine, <br />with the "Patriotic Employer Award" for contributing to national security, and protecting <br />liberty and freedom by supporting employee participation in America's National Guard and <br />Reserve Force. Chief Maas accepted the Award on behalf of the City Commission, the <br />Police Department, and the community. <br /> <br />5C. Presentation by the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau regarding Tourism. <br />Action: Ibis Romero, Executive Director of the Sunny Isles Beach Tourism and Marketing <br />Council, introduced Rolando Aedo of the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau <br />(GMCVB) who did a power point presentation on the State of the Industry Address for <br />Greater Miami and the Beaches. Ms. Romero handed out information from the GMCVB, and <br />thanked Mr. Aedo noting that in June we will have a State of the Industry Address for Sunny <br />Isles Beach. Mayor Edelcup said one of the great partnerships we were able to create four <br />years ago was with the GMCVB and attracting Ibis Romero to head the Sunny Isles Beach <br />Tourism and Marketing Council. We have enjoyed being part of the overall Greater Miami <br />effort to attract tourism here in South Florida and in Sunny Isles Beach. <br /> <br />5D. A Proclamation Proclaiming April 2011 as "Water Conservation Month" in the City of <br />Sunny Isles Beach. <br />Action: Mayor Ede1cup read the Proclamation into the record; City Clerk Hines will mail it . <br /> <br />5E. A Proclamation Proclaiming the Week of May 1 - 8, 2011 as "Days of Remembrance <br />Week" in the City of Sunny Isles Beach. <br />Action: The Proclamation was accepted by Hap Levy of the Hollywood Holocaust Memorial <br />Museum, and Sam Gasson, a Holocaust survivor, who have been heading up the Holocaust <br />Memorial services in our City for over 15 years. <br /> <br />SF. A Proclamation Proclaiming the Week of April 24 - 30, 2011 as "Childhood Cancer <br />Awareness Week" in the City of Sunny Isles Beach. <br />Action: Mayor Ede1cup read the Proclamation into the record; City Clerk Hines will mail it . <br /> <br />2 <br />
