<br />Summary Minutes: Emergency City Commission Meeting October 26,2005 <br /> <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida <br /> <br />3B. A motion suspending permit fees for property owners to do emergency repairs due to <br />Hurricane Wilma. <br /> <br />Action: Mayor Ede1cup said that a resolution was needed to allow property owners to do <br />emergency repairs due to the aftermath of Hurricane Wilma. He said they would still require <br />permits but there would be no fee. <br /> <br />Commissioner Iglesias moved and Commissioner Brezin seconded a motion to suspend <br />permit fees for property owners to do emergency repairs. The motion was approved by <br />a voice vote of 5-0 in favor. [A Resolution ratifying this motion will he placed on the <br />November 17,2005 City Commission meeting agenda.] <br /> <br />4. REPORTS FROM CITY DEPARTMENTS <br /> <br />James Watts, Public Works Director, noted that Lukes' Landscaping came in yesterday with <br />equipment and Public Works personnel removed debris out of the streets, and are now picking <br />it up and using the chipper. He said residents can put their tree debris in the swale area and <br />they will pick it up and chip it, beginning at the south end of the City working north and then <br />will periodically pick it up. He said that the trucks will be at the Active Park for storage ofthe <br />1 OO-foot cubic yards dump trucks. He said to refer private business to Lukes', as Atlantic is a <br />private road, Lukes' office number is 954-931-1111. <br /> <br />Interim City Manager Maas said that all restaurants will be closed down at 12:00 midnight. <br /> <br />Susan Simpson, reported that trees are down at the parks as well as playground equipment and <br />exercise stations are damaged and are hazardous. City Attorney Ottinot said he had spoken <br />with Assistant City Manager Jorge Vera and discussed having a letter from the City to release <br />us from any liability for injury at a park such as the Town Center Park, but will not issue the <br />letter yet. <br /> <br />Clayton Parker noted that the City can take care of its own damage assessments of buildings. <br />He said they will check the construction sites and any electrical issues, and then the <br />developers can resume securing their properties. He said the Building Department is doing a <br />survey on properties first, and then the developers can secure them. <br /> <br />James Watts said that cranes will come in today to take the damaged towers out. Vice Mayor <br />Thaler said the construction equipment at LaPerla hit both sides of Sands Point and Oceania I. <br /> <br />Thomas Acquaro, Human Resources Director, reported on the status of employees and noted <br />that essential employees were here yesterday and today, and that all employees will begin full <br />time tomorrow as City Hall will be opened. <br /> <br />Commissioner Brezin asked what she can tell the residents at the Arlen House as to when the <br />electric and water will be restored. Interim City Manager Maas said that the substation <br />sustained infrastructure damage and that several water main locations were broken. He said <br />they are all being worked on and at this time there is no time frame. <br /> <br />3 <br />
