<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2011- le27 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, <br />ESTABLISHING A COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM <br />FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM THE CITY OF <br />SUNNY ISLES BEACH AS P ART OF A DRUG <br />PREVENTION AND SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD PROGRAM <br />FOR THE 201112012 SCHOOL YEAR; CREATING A <br />SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE AND ESTABLISHING <br />MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SELECTION OF <br />SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS; PROVIDING THE CITY <br />MANAGER AND THE CHIEF OF POLICE WITH THE <br />AUTHORITY TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO <br />EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission has made a strong commitment to provide <br />educational opportunities to the youth of the City of Sunny Isles Beach; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City's commitment to education is demonstrated by the partnership <br />between the City and the School Board of Miami-Dade County to create the Norman S. <br />Edelcup/Sunny Isles Beach K-8; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City is committed to providing educational opportunities to the youth of <br />the City to discourage drug abuse and to promote a safe neighborhood; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to establish a scholarship program for the <br />201112012 school year. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. Purpose of College Scholarship Program. The purpose of the College <br />Scholarship Program is to promote drug prevention and safe neighborhoods in the City of Sunny <br />Isles Beach. The program is designated to create educational opportunities for the youth in the <br />City to prevent delinquency among the youth in the City. <br /> <br />Section 2. Creation of a College Scholarship Program, The City Commission hereby <br />authorizes the creation of a College Scholarship Program. The Scholarships shall be awarded at a <br />Commission meeting no later than June of each year. A minimum of six (6) scholarships in the <br />amount of $2,500.00 shall be awarded. All of the recipients must have graduated from a public <br />school in Miami-Dade County. <br />
