Grandinetti, Police Captain <br /> <br />3/15/2012 <br /> <br />Approval to Expend Partial Forfeiture (DOJ) Funds for the hiring of <br />a SecurityConsultanCfor a Compreliensive SecurityMasterPlan, <br />in an amount not to exceed $149,500.00 <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />It is recommended that the City Commission approve the expenditure of partial <br />Federal (DOJ) Forfeiture Funds, previously awarded to the Police Department as <br />the results of investigative participation in forfeiture and seizure cases. These <br />funds are permissible by law to be spent for the purchases of police equipment <br />and other law enforcement activities. It is requested that we be permitted to <br />utilize up to $149,500.00 of said funds on deposit for such purpose. <br /> <br />REASONS: <br /> <br />With the increasing number of city parks and open green space, the city is in <br />need of an enhanced security master plan. With the use of DOJ forfeiture funds, <br />the city will hire a security consultant to provide a Security Master Plan. <br /> <br />ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: <br /> <br />The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department actively participates in a DEA / HIDTA <br />(High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) Initiative Group that conducts numerous <br />ongoing proactive investigations. <br /> <br />One of the benefits of participating in and providing personnel into high intensity <br />narcotics investigations is the sharing of confiscated proceeds for the <br /> <br />Agenda Item _\ C) "D <br /> <br />http://sibagenda.sibfl.net/agenda/Preview.aspx?ltemID=741 &MeetingID= Date <br /> <br />~-~, 2.. <br />
