<br />CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH <br /> <br />EDUCATIONAL REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM <br /> <br />It is the intent of the City to provide educational assistance to full-time employees voluntarily <br />participating in training or educational programs designed to maintain or increase knowledge, <br />skills, and/or abilities. This program establishes the policies and procedures for participation in the <br />Educational Reimbursement Program. <br /> <br />This program is open to all full-time employees of the City, and any other employees deemed <br />qualified, as may be designated by the City Manager. <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />,- <br /> <br />The City of Sunny Isles Beach will reimburse employees for educational development expenses <br />provided (1) the courses are job-related, (2) the courses are pre-approved by the Department Head, <br />the Human Resources Director, 'and the City'Manager, and (3) the Employee receives a grade of <br />"B" or better. General employees will be eligible to receive reimbursement of up to Fifteen <br />Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00), per fiscal year, for the cost of tuition, books, materials, supplies and <br />activity fees. Senior Staff employees as determined by the City Manager (e.g. Department <br />Heads, Deputies etc.) and general employees who are seeking a Master's degree or higher <br />wilrbe eligi6Ie to receive reimbursement of up to Tliree TliousancrUollars ($3~000~00), per <br />fiscal year, for the cost of tuition, books, materials, supplies and activity fees. <br /> <br />If less than one-half (1/2) of the educational funds budgeted for the fiscal year are expended or <br />encumbered at the end of the fiscal year, a participating employee may be entitled to receive an <br />additional reimbursement amount, not to exceed Fifteen Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00). The <br />maximum benefit amount shall be Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00), per fiscal year. <br /> <br />Participants may be required to reimburse the City should they leave, voluntarily or not, within <br />twelve (12) months of receiving program money. <br /> <br />Procedure: <br /> <br />A. An eligible employee will complete and submit an "Educational Reimbursement <br />Request Form" (copy attached) to his/her Department Head. The Department Head will <br />then submit the form to the City Manger, through the Human Resources Director, for <br />approval. Forms can be obtained from the Human Resources Department. <br /> <br />B. The City Manager, in consultation with the Department Head and the Human <br />Resources Director, will consider each request upon its merit. The Human Resources <br />Director will then notify the employee, through the Department Head, of the City <br />Manager's decision. <br /> <br />C. If approved, the employee will pay his/her tuition at the time of enrollment in the <br />approved course(s). Upon completion of the pre-approved course(s) with a grade of <br />"B" or better, the City will reimburse the employee accordingly. <br /> <br />D. Payments will be made in a timely fashion upon verification of submitted required <br />documentation. <br />
