Edelcup IV,/t;
March 1,2012 I v I

TO:

DATE:

RE:

Resolution opposing the closure of the Eastern Shores fire rescue station

RECOMMEND A TION:

This Resolution is presented for your consideration.

REASONS:

It was reported in today's Miami Herald that Miami-Dade County is closing down the Eastem Shores
fire rescue station this Monday, March 5th. Notice of closure of the Eastern Shores fire rescue station
was never given to the City of Sunny Isles Beach. The increased demands on Sunny Isles Beach's fire
rescue station will endanger the health, safety and welfare of residents of Sunny Isles Beach and North
Miami Beach by increasing the time it takes to respond to emergency calls. Additionally, it will
completely jeopardize emergency responses to North Miami Beach residents in situations when the
bridge located at Sunny Isles Boulevardll63fd Street is up.

Sunny Isles Beach has experienced dramatic increases in its population as a result of increased
development. This has resulted in increased demands for essential government services, including
emergency fire rescue services. Given these increased demands, the City of Sunny Isles Beach must
ensure it continues to provide an adequate level of emergency fire rescue services.

By adopting this Resolution, the City Commission will send a strong message to Miami-Dade County
that emergency fire rescue services should not be jeopardized.

Agenda Item .i\:J)"C.
