The path connects with the existing Bethpage State Park trail and runs northward <br />through Trail View State Park and on public roads to its terminus at the Syosset Railroad Station. The <br />completed trail system provides recreational opportunities to the Long Island residents and will provide an <br />altemative transportation mode facility that connects to a mass transit oudet. This final design project will <br />require plans, specifications, construction cost estimate and close coordination with New York State Office <br />of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Nassau County and the Town of Oyster Day due to <br />overlapping jurisdiction issues. <br /> <br />Reconstrucdon of NY 347 from Rr.. 454 to NY 25, Smllhtown, NY; Il!07-Present. <br />Client: New York Slate Dept. of Transportation <br />Mr. G.nahan is serving as the senior landscape architect on this $150-million final design project involving <br />NY 347, NY t II, NY 25 and 12 side streets. Thc project will be advanced under three separate contracts, <br />each requiring final plans, specificatioos and construction cost estimates. The original focus of the project was <br />to address the capacity issues of this major regional arterial roadway. After award, the NYSDOT decided to <br />advance this project under their newly adopted "Vision Plan". This plan u,coIporates a program tided <br />GrceoLITES, which is modeled similar to the well known LEED program for building oriented projects, and <br />emphasizes the use of a sustainable design approach for transportation projects. On the 347 project, this <br />approach includes a focus on landscape restoration and addressed multi-modal traffic via a proposed shared <br />use path, 'lbe shared use path will be designed to effectively create a linear park complete with formal rest <br />stops called ,cGreen Stops"; educational kiosks; bio-swales to improve storm water quality prior to infiltration; <br />solar lighting; and aesthetic improvements through the use of a variety of materials such as brick pavers, <br />imprinted concrete, modular textured walls, and attractive site furnihlte. Mr. Garrahan has been involved in <br />the design of the shared use path and its facilitics, especially the development of the initial"Gteeu. Stop" and <br />bio-swale/rain garden. Mr. Garrahan's responsibilities also included input on the visualization materials <br />prepared. to depict the proposed noise walls. Senior Landscape Architect. <br />Clien" New York State Dept. nf'transportation, Reg. 10 <br />This project includes preliminary and final design "mees for the replacement of the existing NSP Bridge <br />over NYS Route 110 and its interchange along with widenings on NYS Route 110 from four to six lanes <br />between LIE and NSP. Mr. Garrahan was responsible for the preparation of the project Visual Resources <br />Assessment and Visual Impact Assessment along this heavy commercial corridor within the Town of <br />Huntington. Dctennination of user groups and view sheds within the project corridor and ~e development <br />of the VIA appendix to be u,cluded with the CR!EIS of this project.
