AECOM

Design + Planning

A:'COM

Parks and
Open Space
Planning

A community's system of parks and
open spaces can generate significant
economic, environmental and social
benefits, and can help the community
become more livable and sustainable.
AECOM has helped communities
throughout the United States plan,
develop and implement parks and
open-space systems that have
improved residents' quality of life and
the local economy. Other benefits we
help achieve include: reduced
operations and maintenance costs; a
better understanding of residents'
recreation needs and lifestyles;
prioritization of spending; attraction of
more residents, visitors and
businesses; alignment of
comprehensive plans, capital
improvements programs, impact fees
and land development regulations
within the parks and open space
vision; improved opportunities for
grants, partnerships, donations and
other funding mechanisms; and
community involvement and
excitement.

The AECOM approach to parks and
open-space planning includes:
- An inventory and analysis of the
existing system, including facilities,
programs, staffing, operations,
maintenance and fees
- Creating a long-range vision,
including parks and open spaces,
recreation facilities and programs,

greenways and trails, streets, civic
spaces and natural areas
- Assessing community needs and
priorities, including qualitative,
quantitative and observational
techniques
- Creating open-space design
prototypes and guidelines, including
neighborhood and community parks,
sports complexes and special use
facilities, greenways and trails
- Developing "Level of Service"
standards and related regulations,
including acrElage, access, facilities,
quality and programs
- Developing an implementation
strategy, including cost estimates,
funding opportunities, maintenance
plans, capital improvements
priorities, programs, organizational
structure, policies and standards,
codes and partnerships
- Writing a masterplan document and
seeing it through the process,
including preparing reports, an
executive summary, a graphical
poster and presentations

AECOM helps make communities more
livable, sustainable and green by
designing excellent public realms. We
work collaboratively with clients to
determine needs, design long-range
visions and develop realistic strategies
to bring those visions to fruition.

City of Sunny Isles Beach I Design & Permitting Services of the Intracoastal Parks RFQ No, 12-04-04

17
