HPB RESOLUTION NO. 2007- 0 q <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />BOARD OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, <br />APPROVING THE APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF <br />APPROPRIATENESS REQUESTED BY PETITIONER DR. <br />ROBERT CORNFELD FOR REPAIR OF THE SUNNY ISLES <br />BEACH PIER (A/K/A NEWPORT PIER), LOCATED AT 16701 <br />COLLINS AVENUE ATTACED HERETO AS EXHIBIT "A "; <br />PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 171 -3.D., Code of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, <br />Florida, the Historic Preservation Board has been empowered to approve special certificates of <br />appropriateness authorizing the demolition, removal, reconstruction, alteration or new <br />construction of an individual site or in a district which requires determination by the Historic <br />Preservation Board before said certificate can be issued; and <br />WHEREAS, Section 171 -10 of the City of Sunny Isles Beach Code provides the Historic <br />Preservation Board with authority to approve applications for certificate of appropriateness based <br />upon an evaluation of the compatibility of the physical alteration or improvement with <br />surrounding properties; and <br />WHEREAS, the property designated as Sunny Isles Beach Pier (a/k/a Newport Pier), <br />located at 16701 Collins Avenue was designated by the Miami -Dade County Historic <br />Preservation Board as a historic site on January 21, 1982, and re- designated as a historic site on <br />June 6, 2005, by the Sunny Isles Beach Historic Preservation Board; and <br />WHEREAS, the Sunny Isles Beach Pier sustained major damage during Hurricane <br />Wilma, and <br />WHEREAS, the Petitioner Dr. Robert Cornfeld applied for a Certificate of <br />Appropriateness on April 26, 2007, requesting authorization to repair the Sunny Isles Beach Pier <br />by embedding new rods into existing concrete piers with a bearing plate to support new wooden <br />deck; and <br />WHEREAS, a true and correct copy of the Petitioner's Application for Certificate of <br />Appropriateness is attached hereto as Exhibit "A "; <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />BOARD OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Acceptance of Petitioner's Application for Certificate of Appropriateness. The <br />Historic Preservation Board hereby approves the Petitioner's, Dr. Robert Cornfeld, Certificate of <br />Appropriateness dated April 26, 2007, subject to the following terms and conditions: <br />Resolution No. 2007 - Newport Pier Pace 1 of 2 <br />
