This mul-
timodal, transit-oriented corridor involved
road realignment, establishment of medians
for function and beautification, shared use
pedestrian and bicycle paths, and transit
upgrades. The Coconut Creek Educational
Corridor was chosen as one of only three
corridors in Broward County to serve as
a model for the Broward County Sense of
Place project.
Sense of Place is a Broward County initia-
tive to create a countywide design guide-
book that promotes and implements design
guidelines to create pedestrian-friendly
spaces and public transit, taking into consid-
eration the distinctive character of each city
within the County.
The project was broken into two phases.
The first phase of construction will be com-
pleted later this year and involves installing
raised median, irrigation, median landscap-
ing, and roadway widening. The second
phase involves installation of sidewalk and
landscaping on both sides of the roadway.
Atkins’ work includes segmenting the original
project into an initial phase and producing
construction documents for the installation of
curbed and landscape.
Transportation
246251:RC:1011
