City of Sunny Isles Beach ∙ RFQ No. 12-04-02 – Planning & Urban Design
2-8
transportation and urban planning, the methods of considering transportation
projects are changing more quickly in recent years. Corradino practices
combination corridor/livability projects, which represent a new generation of
transportation planning in South Florida. This approach acknowledges that
transportation and land use are inextricably linked. The Corradino Group and its
team are very familiar with the approach, resulting from much of their work across
the nation over the past four decades. Specifically, this included work
accomplished along the US-1 Corridor in Southern Miami Dade County, where
the primary roadway corridor was enhanced with premium transit in the form of
bus rapid transit, while simultaneous land use planning (for nodes of intensity at
various points along the corridor) set the stage for more transit friendly, sustainable
development.

When conventional processes of evaluating projects are geared just toward
adding automobile capacity, roadway building and widening projects are the
obvious solution. At this point in the County’s development, we don’t have the
land or financial resources to implement many more traditional roadway
projects. Corradino believes that transportation planning must move beyond
established procedures to more thoroughly examine our regional transportation
issues. The way projects are developed needs to progress by including using
alternative performance measures, outreach methods, and implementation
strategies so that transportation projects can improve community livability and
quality of life. Corridor capacity must be viewed as being diverse to include
transit, walking, and biking in addition to traditional automobile level of service.
The location of residential and employment centers also impacts where, when,
and how people travel. The colocation of employment and residential centers
could have dramatic impacts on travel. This, however, is highly dependent on
market conditions. To entice this development takes a combination of public
investment in transportation infrastructure, the proper land use and zoning, as
well as other regional economic factors relative to supply, demand, and
inventory of a variety of development types. Considering the coordination of
transportation with land use will be the primary technique of shaping urban form
and mobility in the future.

GIS MAPPING AND 3D GRAPHICS
Corradino has a GIS department, which utilizes the latest technology to assist its
clients. Corradino uses the base layers from the Miami-Dade County System and
customizes new layers for its municipal clients to suite their specific needs. In doing
