New Haven Empowerment Zone <br />Neighborhood Plan <br />New Haven, CT <br />Client: City of New Haven <br />Planning Department <br />Bermello Ajamil and Partners was commissioned by the City of New <br />Haven Planning Department to conduct a neighborhood analysis <br />and development plan for two of the city’s largest communities, <br />Hill and Fair Haven. <br />Both Hill and Fair Haven are historic districts that had served as <br />gateways for arriving immigrants who often went to work in the <br />prolifi c oyster beds found just off shore. As the oyster industry <br />deteriorated, so did the area. B&A assisted in identifying the needs <br />and opportunities that existed within the area, conducting analyses <br />of the current conditions and presenting recommendations for <br />potential redevelopment and land use opportunities. <br />22
