ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES
K &S has been performing environmental and water resource
services continuously for more than 25 years. We conduct
more than $2 million of environmental and water resource
services annually. Our environmental and water resources
team has well over 200 years of combined experience and
includes experts in biology, ecology, geology, water resource
planning, botany, zoology, contamination, and engineering. Our
projects range from small biological site monitoring projects
to multimillion dollar environmental planning and restoration
projects. Many of our projects begin at the planning stage,
proceed through permitting and construction, and continue
with post- construction monitoring. Our environmental
staff helped complete one of the largest, most complex,
watershed plans ever undertaken in the United States: the
South Miami -Dade Watershed Study and Plan (SMDWSP), a
blueprint for making land use decisions within South Miami -
Dade County for the next 50 years. The Florida Chapter of
the American Planning Association honored this innovative
project with a 2007 Award of Excellence — their highest
award. Our environmental services include contamination
assessment; sampling (soil, surface water, waste, groundwater);
ecological surveys and mapping; wetlands and upland natural
areas ecosystem restoration; wetland delineation, mitigation,
design, and permitting; environmental impact assessments;
invasive species control planning, implementation, and
management; environmental compliance; threatened and
endangered species studies and relocations; and water quality
assessments.
STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING SERVICES
K &S has provided structural engineering services to the
Florida Department of Transportation, County governments,
municipal road departments, and numerous private
developers. We routinely provide these governmental
agencies with services on all types of bridge projects, from
small access road bridges, to major bridges providing vital
transportation links. We also provide plan phase reviews
and constructability plan reviews; Project Development and
Environmental (PD &E) Studies; bridge development reports;
bridge and associated retaining wall design; bridge inspection
and bridge rehabilitation; bridge construction engineering
and inspection; and structural design of overhead signs,
signal mastarms, lighting, and box culverts. We also provide
a full range of services for other miscellaneous structural
projects, including piers, docks, utility crossings and supports,
boardwalks, marinas, and pedestrian bridges.
LEED PROFESSIONALS
At K &S, we apply LEED principles in land planning, sustainable
site development, civi I engineering, and landscape architecture.
We have LEED certified professionals, additionally, over 25 of
our employees, including planners, landscape architects, and
civil engineers recently completed a LEED workshop.
VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS SERVICES
Visual communications are as crucial to the consensus
building process as language -based communications, often
times, even more so, because visual communications clarify
and compress information and give it concrete and easily -
observable form. Consider, for instance, the visioning
process, which typically must fuse together conflicting ideas
and perspectives. With the aid of advanced 3D rendering
software, our Visual Communications Team can produce
visuals in real time that portray ideas and perspectives as
they are being expressed by elected officials, City staff, and
involved citizens.Additionally,we can incorporate visuals into
base maps, aerial images, and photography. In other words,we
can provide all key stakeholders with concrete images that
convey the impact that proposed policies and plans will have
on the human and natural environment, thereby, providing
them with a firm basis on which to make decisions about
future courses of action.
