April 16, 2012 To Whom It May Concern: In response to requests from neighborhoods, the City of Fort Lauderdale's City Commission approved an ordinance which establishes a process for communities to follow in order to underground their overhead utilities (power, telephone, cable TV, etc.) and creates a mechanism for the benefited community to pay the cost of undergrounding through special assessment. On June 17, 2008 the City Commission approved a motion accepting the Consultant's Competitive Negotiations Act (CCNA) Selection Committee's recommendation of ranking firms for Civil Engineering Utility Design Consultant Services Continuing Contract and authorized the proper City Officials to commence negotiations with the highest ranked proposal -- Keith and Schnars, P.A. On December 16, 2008 the City Commission authorized the proper City Officials to award and execute an agreement with Keith and Schnars, P.A., for civil engineering utility design, construction management, appraisal and community outreach consultant services for undergrounding of above ground utility lines through special assessment programs. On January 4, 2011 the City Commission approved Task Order 1 with Keith and Schnars for the Riviera Isles community and on December 20, 2011 approved Task Orders 2, 3 and 4 for the Idlewyid, Seven Isles and Las Olas Isles communities. Keith and Schnars has been actively working with City staff for over three years regarding the undergrounding process in a total of six interested communities and has been involved with the City in various other tasks for over ten years.
