Minutes, City Commission Regular Meeting
September 11, 1997 11
E) REPORT ON PROCEDURE FOR PUBLICATIONS OF MEETINGS AND
POSTING NOTICES (City Attorney)
The City Attorney asked that Commissioners contact her the week before the
meeting, by Wednesday, to schedule agenda items for the next week.
In answer to Commissioner Morrow, the City Attorney indicated it is acceptable
to submit letters from citizens with various concerns to the Mayor, and to
schedule on the agenda any item she wishes to address at a meeting.
There was a general discussion about the agenda publication date and
coordination of anyone having a hearing disability as well as including the
location of the meeting in the publication, which will be addressed by the City
Attorney and Dan Palmer, representing Aventura News.
F) DISCUSSION ON ZONING PROCEDURES (City Attorney)
There was consensus to schedule discussion relating to zoning at the upcoming
workshop on September 16, 1997, as well as the presentation by Howard
Leonard on becoming a public official, the Sunshine Law and ethics. The
meeting time was changed to 1 PM. Commissioner Iglesias requested the
meeting be tape- recorded.
I) REPORT ON REVENUE SOURCES (City Attomey)
The City Attorney noted this information is contained in the agenda package
(memorandum, dated August 21, 1997).
Commissioner Iglesias was interested in receiving revenues from the bedding
tax. Mayor Samson indicated he had broached this subject, but was
unsuccessful. There is significant revenue loss now by illegal renting and no
recording of bed tax. A committee will be formed, which will work with
Tallahassee to cure this situation.
Under public discussion, Mr. Robert Giese, 325 Atlantic Isle, noted there are
many single - family residences divided into. efficiencies. Mayor Samson
explained this must be addressed diplomatically with the County.
