RESOLUTION NO. 2012- 1 q S <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br />SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO <br />PARTICIPATE IN THE "PRESTIGE CULTURAL SERIES AT <br />BISCAYNE BAY CAMPUS 2012 - 2013" PROGRAM, AND AUTHORIZING <br />A CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE BISCAYNE BAY CAMPUS <br />OF FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY (FIU), IN THE <br />AMOUNT OF FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00); AUTHORIZING <br />THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO <br />EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION: PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE <br />DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is committed in participating and informing <br />its residents of cultural events and activities taking place in and around our community; and <br />WHEREAS, the Biscayne Bay Campus (BBC) of Florida International University (FIU) <br />has invited the City to become a co- partner in the FIU Prestige Cultural Series at BBC 2012 - <br />2013 to engage our community in outstanding cultural experiences in the educational setting of <br />the Biscayne Bay Campus; and <br />WHEREAS, the Prestige Cultural Series at BBC will include five events: 1) An Opera <br />Matinee at BBC; 2) Musical Theater Scenes at Sunny Isles Beach; 3) A Piano Concert at BBC; <br />and 4) A Gourmet Wine & Food Luncheon with FIU's Graduate String Quartet at BBC; and <br />WHEREAS, the partnership between the City and FIU is mutually beneficial to our <br />residents and visitors, and it can be incorporated into the City's existing Cultural Events <br />Program. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION <br />OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Approval of Partnership. The City Commission hereby approves the partnership <br />between the City and Florida International University (FIU). <br />Section 2. Authority of City Manager. The City Commission directs the City Manager to do <br />all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution, which includes but is not limited to donating <br />$5,000.00 to Biscayne Bay Campus of FIU for the Prestige Cultural Series at BBC 2012 - 2013. <br />Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption. <br />PASSED AND ADOPTED this 19th day of July 2012. <br />R2012- Contribution to FIU Prestige Cultural Series <br />
