Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting January 19,2017 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida <br /> 7. Pursuant to Section 265-11 N. (2) of the City of Sunny Isles Beach Land Development <br /> Regulations,the Applicant is requesting approval of the extension of the building permit time <br /> frame to allow for an additional 12 months beyond the 24 months time frame for a total of 36 <br /> months. <br /> Protests 0 Waivers 0 Ex Parte 2 <br /> Action: Mayor Scholl gave opening remarks on zoning procedures/decorum. Deputy City <br /> Clerk Betancur read a disclaimer for the Zoning hearing, and administered the oath to <br /> witnesses. City Attorney Ottinot asked if there were any Ex Parte disclosures, and both <br /> Mayor Scholl and Vice Mayor Goldman mentioned that he spoke to the applicant and their <br /> attorneys about the Application. <br /> Planning and Zoning Director Claudia Hasbun reported that this project is located at15920 <br /> Collins Avenue on 100 Kings Point Drive. The project includes an existing tower of 335 <br /> rentals units. The application consists of two new permanent rental towers. Each tower will <br /> have 127 rental units. There will also be a parking garage of 860 parking spaces. The <br /> applicant is seeking approval for four(4)basic variances. One(1)variance is in the building <br /> separation between the parking garage and the north tower. Two(2)variances apply strictly <br /> to the parking garage as a setback variance for the north and the south side of the parking <br /> garage. And the fourth variance is for setbacks for porte cochere's located at the front of <br /> each tower,facing the street. Also present is architect Beatriz Hernandez, landscape <br /> architect Brian Yule, and traffic engineer Richard Garcia. <br /> Mr. Kasdin mentioned that the property has been owned by the Burnetti family for over 30 <br /> years where they have an existing rental apartment building. He added that in addition to the <br /> existing building, the property has a lot of surface parking; however, it is one of the least <br /> attractive and least favored urban conditions because they are bad environmentally in that <br /> they absorb heat, create heat in the existing neighborhood and do not provide shade. <br /> The goal of this project is to bring the Kings Point Drive neighborhood up to the standards of <br /> Sunny Isles Beach by creating a beautiful new development. As part of this project, the <br /> Brunetti family will also be granting the City an easement of 0.407 acres of land along <br /> Collins Avenue,which will be added to the linear parkway that the city has been developing <br /> known as the Intracoastal Parks. Included in the easement, is an additional 1600 linear feet <br /> that will be used to construct a baywalk that can be used by the public and not just residents <br /> of Marina del Mar. <br /> 3 <br />
