Police Captain <br /> DATE: 10/18/2012 <br /> RE: Authorization to Apply For, Receive and Expend Grant Money from the <br /> Miami-Dade County, Federal Drug Control and System Improvement <br /> Program (Byrne /JAG Grant FY2013) for the purchase of School <br /> Resource Officers Teaching Tools for Kids Safety Classes, in an amount <br /> not to exceed $3,205.00 <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended that the City Commission approve a Resolution authorizing the Mayor <br /> to apply for, receive. and expend monies from the Miami-Dade County Federal Drug <br /> Control and System Improvement Program (Byrne/JAG Grant) in the amount of <br /> $3,205.00 <br /> REASONS: <br /> The City of Sunny Isles Beach Police Department has been given preliminary approval of <br /> grant funds totaling $3,205.00 in order to purchase School Resource Officers Teaching <br /> Tools for Kids Safety Classes. <br /> ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: <br /> By utilizing FY2013 Byrne grant funds, the department would be able to provide the <br /> school resource officer with a number of teaching tools for the Kid Safety Class. Among <br /> these tools are workbooks that test the children's knowledge and help determine what <br /> areas to focus on. The younger kids are motivated by small give- ways.
