A. Concrete Sampling: Furnish concrete required for casting specimens and for the <br /> specified sampling and testing. <br /> B. Testing: The following testing will be performed by an independent testing <br /> laboratory retained and paid by the Contractor and approved by the Engineer. <br /> 1. Slump and air content tests for each 50 cubic yards, or fraction thereof, <br /> placed. <br /> 2. Yield tests, unit weight tests for each 200 cubic yards, or fraction <br /> thereof, placed or as deemed necessary by the Engineer. <br /> 3. One set of five standard cylinders made and cured in accordance with ASTM <br /> C31 for each 50 cubic yards, or fraction thereof of concrete placed, for <br /> compressive strength testing. <br /> C. Tests: Sampled according to ASTM C172 and tested as follows: <br /> 1. Air content: ASTM C173. <br /> 2. Weight per cubic foot, yield, and air content and cement content: ASTM <br /> C138. <br /> 3. Slump: ASTM C143. <br /> 4. Compressive strength of cylindrical concrete specimens: ASTM C39. <br /> 5. Chloride content of the component concrete materials shall be determined <br /> following the Florida Department of Transportation Method for Determining <br /> Low-Levels of Chloride in Concrete and Raw Materials as outlined in <br /> FDOT Research Report No. 203 and FDOT Corrosion Report No. 78-1. No <br /> chloride contents are allowed in the concrete. <br /> 3.02 MIX EQUIPMENT: <br /> A. Batching Plant: <br /> 1. Arrangement: Provide separate bins or compartments for each size or <br /> classification of aggregate and for each type of bulk Portland cement. <br /> 2. Compartments: <br /> a. Provide compartments of ample size, constructed so that materials <br /> will be separated under working conditions. Equip the batching plant <br /> so that the flow of each material into its batcher is stopped <br /> automatically when the designated weight has been reached. <br /> 08/12 03305-9 11-4179 <br />
