To help employees <br /> maintain their income during certain authorized absences, the City will provide <br /> compensation according to the guidelines below. <br /> PROCEDURE: <br /> 1) A short-term absence generally is any absence of two workweeks or less. <br /> Absences that are longer than two workweeks or that are designated as Family <br /> and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) absences should be treated under the Leaves of <br /> Absensc FMLA Policy (704:2) to ensure that employment rights are maintained. <br /> 2) An authorized short-term absence may include any of the following (the phrase <br /> "immediate family" for the purposes of this policy includes the employee's spouse, <br /> brother, step-brother, sister, step-sister, father, step-father, mother, step-mother, <br /> children, stepchildren, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, <br /> daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandparents and grandparents-in-law, and any <br /> member of the employee's household): <br /> a. Sickness or injury resulting in the temporary disability of the employee <br /> or a member of the employee's immediate family; fSee Family and <br /> Medical Leave (FMLA), policy 704.21 <br /> b. Death, funeral, or estate settlement in the employee's immediate family; <br /> c. Marriage of the employee or a member of the employee's immediate <br /> family; <br /> d.
