<br />C. Stones of one inch or greater in dimension, or as recommended by the pipe <br />manufacturer, whichever is smaller, shall be removed to avoid point bearing. <br /> <br />D. Filter material and bedding shall be provided under utility lines, where indicated <br />or specified. <br /> <br />E. Trench grade for utilities or structures not requiring special bedding material are <br />to be defined as the grade of the bottom surface of the utility or structure to be <br />considered to be part of this work. <br /> <br />F. Trench grade for utilities in rock shall be defined as 4-inches below the outside <br />of the bottom of the utility or structure, which 4-inches shall be backfilled with <br />suitable bedding material. <br /> <br />G. Overexcavation made in error shall be backfilled to trench grade with suitable <br />compacted fill at the CONTRACTOR's expense. <br /> <br />3.05 GRAVITY PIPE AND STRUCTURES <br /> <br />A. Where the Drawings indicate a force main paralleling a gravity sewer, the <br />CONTRACTOR may utilize a common trench, subject to the ENGINEER’s <br />approval. <br /> <br />B. Where a common trench is used, the force main shall be founded on a shelf of <br />undistributed soil. <br /> <br />C. Excavation for manholes and wetwells, or similar structures, shall be of <br />sufficient size to permit the installation of precast structures or the placement <br />and removal of forms for the full length and width of cast-in-place structure <br />footings and foundations, as shown. <br /> <br />D. When concrete or masonry is to be placed in an excavated area, special care <br />shall be taken not to disturb the bottom of the excavation. <br /> <br />E. Excavation to the final grade level shall be verified before the concrete or <br />masonry is to be placed. <br /> <br />3.06 ROCK <br /> <br />A. Rock shall be cleaned of loose debris and cut to a firm surface either level, <br />stepped or serrated, as shown or as directed. <br /> <br />B.
