  <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach | Invitation to Bid No. 17‐05‐01  43    <br />  <br />Requirements for Conventional Irrigation Systems within project limits: The Contractor is <br />to familiarize himself with the existing irrigations systems and is responsible for the repair <br />of all components to insure a continually efficient irrigation system. This includes the <br />adjustment of the controllers to insure the correct amount of precipitation necessary for <br />viable vegetative growth, always following any South Florida Water Management District <br />drought guidelines. Contractor is to perform monthly wet tests, or more frequently as <br />required by the City, to verify viability of system, on the last Wednesday of each month. <br />On the first day of each month report to City, in writing, indicating proper operation of <br />each zone, required repairs, additional costs and updated run time per zone. Contractor <br />shall ensure that all irrigation systems have 100% coverage with 50% overlap. <br /> <br />3.8 PESTICIDES AND FERTILIZERS <br /> <br />The Contractor must perform an effective commercial fertilization program. Fertilizers must be <br />approved in advance by the Project Manager(s) and must be applied in accordance with the <br />manufacturers instruction’s. The actual type and amount of fertilizer applied must be based on <br />results of soil test(s) and in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Contractor shall <br />perform a soil fertility test at least twice per year or before major fertilization as recommended <br />below, at Contractor’s expense. The soil samples shall be taken in a variety of locations, sixteen <br />(16) minimum (10 in parks and facilities, 6 in rights-of-way), to determine the need for soil/plant <br />nutrients before applying fertilizer. The fertilization needs may be adjusted based on the results <br />of the soil sampling and prior approval of the City. Soil test(s) must be conducted by a college <br />or university with a specialty in land management or a commercial soil laboratory; such tests are <br />the full responsibility of the Contractor at no additional cost to the City. In addition to the soil <br />fertility tests, any sign of sickness or disease in trees, palms or shrubs shall be tested <br />immediately, at the Contractor’s cost. <br /> <br />Contractor must notify the Project Manager(s) one (1) week in advance of fertilizing so that the <br />Project Manager(s) can make any necessary changes to City operations or activities. <br /> <br />Contractor must maintain records of all fertilizer usage on a Contractor provided form. This form <br />must be filled out as fertilizing operations are performed, and all entries must be available for <br />inspection upon request from the Project Manager(s). <br /> <br />Fertilizer must be delivered in the original, unopened containers bearing the manufacturer’s <br />chemical analysis, name, trade name, trademark, and indication of conformance to state and <br />federal laws. In lieu of containers, fertilizer may be furnished in bulk if accompanied by a <br />certificate indicating the above information with each delivery. <br /> <br />Failure by the Contractor to provide adequate fertilizer and/or insecticide shall constitute a failure <br />to properly maintain landscaping. Resulting foliage or landscaping damage occasioned by such <br />failure, as determined by the City, shall be replaced immediately by the Contractor at no cost to <br />the City. Special attention shall be given to control chinch bug infestation in a timely manner <br />such that turf damage does not occur. Aerial spraying of trees, with the exception of Royal and
