<br />City of Sunny Isles Beach | Invitation to Bid No. 17‐05‐01 51 <br /> <br />Contractor is responsible to prune mangroves if needed or requested by the City. <br />Contractor is responsible for obtaining any required permits and licenses from Miami-Dade <br />County DRER and other agencies to properly prune mangroves. <br /> <br />3.10.2 PALMS <br /> <br />Remove dead, dying and hanging fronds from palms, as needed, for clean appearance. <br />Fronds removed shall be severed close to the petiole base without damaging live trunk <br />tissue. The Contractor shall prune Coconut Palms (frond and fruit removal) a minimum of <br />three times per year and other palms (frond and fruit removal) a minimum of two times <br />per year to remove lower hanging fronds and fruit between 9 and 3 o’clock position, or <br />more often as needed to keep fruit free or directed by City. Do not remove fronds that do <br />not hang below a line parallel to the ground. Do not over-prune palms by removing live <br />green fronds. Never pull or rip off palm fronds. The hurricane or candle cut pruning of <br />palms is not allowed, also the use of climbing spikes is not allowed. When pruning palms, <br />thoroughly sanitize pruning tools using chlorine bleach or isopropyl alcohol before use on <br />site and in between each palm to mitigate the risk of disease translocation from site to site <br />and/or from palm to palm. <br /> <br />Prune all Date Palms two times per year (May and October) to remove Date Palm seeds <br />and lower fronds, or more often as needed to keep fruit free or directed by City. When <br />pruning Date Palms, thoroughly sanitize pruning tools using chlorine bleach or isopropyl <br />alcohol before use on site and in between each palm to mitigate the risk of disease <br />translocation from site to site and/or from palm to palm. Prior to hurricane season (June <br />1st), prune Date Palms as follows: Prune seed stalks cutting the stems to within 6” of trunk <br />and two lowest sets of fronds on palms that have been established on site for more than <br />two years. Remove all of the inflorescence/date stalks. Follow with a fungicide application <br />as specified in Article 3.8.7. At no time shall Date Palm fruit droppings litter sidewalks, <br />streets or landscape areas. <br /> <br />Using palm spikes to climb is not allowed. <br /> <br />3.11 SHRUB & GROUNDCOVER MAINTENANCE <br /> <br />Shrub and groundcover material shall be pruned a minimum of once per month to ensure the best <br />shape, health and character of the individual plant if needed. Mechanical trimming may only be used <br />when the health or appearance of the plant will not be damaged by the mechanical trimmers. <br />Groundcover plants shall be selectively cut back to encourage lateral growth and kept in bounds and <br />out of other plantings. On SR A1A (Collins Avenue) the Contractor shall trim shrubs and groundcover, <br />as needed, to meet the criteria set forth in FDOT Index 546. Cut back overgrowth of shrubs and <br />groundcover that extends into the right-of-way preventing clear line of sight. <br /> <br />Contractor shall fertilize, water (as necessary), trim, eliminate weeds, add or replace mulch around <br />all shrub and groundcover beds within all of the Work areas and repair or replace damaged or dead
